According to their records, I joined Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA) as a professional/active writer on June 27, 1996.  I accomplished this by selling three short fiction pieces to three different pro markets, which paid what were considered pro rates at the time, or had both the pay and circulation numbers SFWA required for qualification.

Titles for my active SFWA membership are listed below by publication dates:

“Fence of Palms” long sf short story, published in Aboriginal SF Magazine, November 1993.

“The Home Town Boy” uf short story published in Bending the Landscape:  Fantasy hardcover anthology by White Wolf, March 1997.

“Noodle You, Noodle Me” df novelette published in Asimov’s Science Fiction Magazine, December 1997 (sale in 1994).

I later served on the 1999 SFWA Nebula Short Fiction Jury, in the days when they had preliminary and final ballots, and Novel and Short Fiction Juries.  The Juries usually added one publication each to the Nebula Final Ballot.  SFWA has since changed the entire nomination system. See Nebula Jury Post for more details.

In 2022, SFWA changed its qualification standards to amounts of money earned. I don’t need to requalify, but am now considered a Full SFWA Member.

After an absence of ten years, I rejoined Oklahoma Science Fiction Writers (OSFW) in 2013, and am the 2022 Vice-President (having been re-elected as Vice President since 2018).  I also served as President in 2015 and 2017, and as Treasurer in 2016.
